Nepal’s neighbour in the South, India has been forcing Nepal to sign a treaty related to development of hydropower but that is much similar in content to the humiliating so-called ‘Peace and Friendship Treaty’ signed by both the countries in the year 1950.

If Nepal accepts the fresh Indian proposal then not only foreign countries will be barred from investing in Nepal’s hydropower sector but Nepal itself will have to seek permission from India before harnessing its own water resources. Read more
