Islamabad: Pakistan said on Thursday that it has “exclusive rights” over three Western rivers and any attempt by India to divert the flow of these rivers would be considered an “act of aggression”. Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal made the remarks during his weekly media briefing here in response to a question regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks to stop water flowing to Pakistan. Note: It is a glaring example how hue and cry over water is generated in both, India and Pakistan. Indian politicians have been shouting at full throttle over this issue but it only meant either for the three rivers allocated to India (Ravi, Beas and Sutlej) or referred to legally allowed use of water from the three rivers allocated to Pakistan (Indus, Jhelum and Chenab) under Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan government twisted it to suit its own interest and showed it as if India is referring to the three rivers allocated to Pakistan. It was an election rally and Indian Prime Minister didn’t named the rivers but other politicians have been repeating it many times, see the related links below. There is an acute need of sane voices in both the countries, so that the popular public sentiment are not ignited to go out of control.
